Photovoltaic

Solar Energy Management Platform

Challenges & Objectives

/ Project Overview

SolarPlan Pro is an enterprise‑grade SaaS platform that combines satellite imagery, real‑time climate data and machine learning to help solar engineers and installers design, analyze and optimize photovoltaic systems. As the Lead Product Designer on a small two‑person team, I spent 16 weeks in Q1 2026 creating the experience. The beta enabled over 2 400 solar projects, delivered a 94 % improvement in accuracy and cut planning time by 68 %.

/ Challenges

  • Fragmented data sources: Professionals manually gather irradiance, climate and satellite data from 5–7 different tools (PVGIS, NASA POWER, Google Earth, inverter spec sheets, utility rates and shading analysis)—a process that takes 3–4 hours per project.
  • Inaccurate yield predictions: Legacy software uses generic assumptions instead of location‑specific data, causing 15–25 % discrepancies between projected and actual energy production.
  • No real‑time optimization: Existing tools rely on historical averages and ignore weather patterns, seasonal variations and local shading.
  • Complex technical barriers: Deep solar‑engineering knowledge is required, so smaller installers struggle with steep learning curves.

/ Objectives

  • Consolidate irradiance, climate, satellite and equipment data into a single platform to remove manual aggregation and ensure data transparency.
  • Provide AI‑assisted design and analytics to improve accuracy, reduce planning time and empower junior staff to handle projects independently.
  • Create a mobile‑first, intuitive user experience that conveys financial savings, environmental impact and performance insights in plain language.
